On a sunny day filled with excitement and support, the Starfish Carnival brought together lifesaving clubs, volunteers, and families to create an unforgettable experience. This event was not just about surf and sand - it was about ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, could experience the thrill of the ocean, the joy of competition, and the warmth of community.

Inclusive Event Photography: Documenting the Starfish Nippers Program

For those unfamiliar, Starfish Nippers is an inclusive lifesaving skills program designed for children and young adults with disabilities. It runs alongside traditional Nippers programs at lifesaving clubs across Australia, focusing on beach safety, water awareness, and most importantly, fun!

The program is entirely volunteer-run and provides a welcoming environment for kids who might not otherwise have access to surf lifesaving activities. Seeing this in action at the carnival was nothing short of inspiring.

From the moment I arrived, I could feel the energy and enthusiasm radiating from the participants, volunteers, and families. Everyone there was committed to making sure the kids had an incredible experience, and their smiles said it all.

What stood out to me most was my own club, Torquay Surf Lifesaving Club, stepping up to volunteer even though we didn’t have any Starfish participants of our own. This is what lifesaving is all about - community, inclusion, and stepping up for others.
